What are the responsibilities of a Skout Deals Territory Owner?

Territory Owners find merchants that are looking to grow their business, and help them do it.

You’re our feet-­on­-the-­street, even though most of the time you’re calling from your office chair. You’re responsible for helping merchants decide whether Skout Deals is a good fit, leading them through the process, demonstrating the product and answering any questions they may have. You’re dedicated to their success, providing suggestions and building a partnering relationship. You’re in the community and evangelizing the Skout Deals app and growing your local app user base.

And don’t worry, we’ll provide you all the resources you need to succeed.

On top of  that, you’ll be joining the Skout Deals family on the ground floor. You’ll be representing a revolutionary mobile marketing platform, unlike any other.

How much sales and business experience do I need?

Ideally a year or more. However, if you do not have business ownership or sales experience, but do enjoy helping others, have a passion and desire to succeed and think you have what it takes, we encourage you to apply as well.

How much technical expertise do I need?

Ideally, above average. You’ll be performing online demos, answering technical questions, preparing PowerPoint presentations and deploying personal email campaigns. If you use a variety of apps and social networks regularly, can troubleshoot your own computer issues, you’ll be fine .

What will I need to learn?

You will need to learn about the product, the sales process and become proficient with the various technology tools required to succeed in your role, such as screen sharing software, etc. This includes technical information, as well as how to identify ideal clients and best practices.

What kind of training do you offer?

We provide an comprehensive Sales Training based on best practices along with technical training materials through our online Skout University, or “Skout U”. When ever possible, we try to streamline the process with written and online training resources allowing Territory Owners to learn at their own speed. You will also have in-house support staff resources you can contact as needed.   Much of our training is self-guided online, or one­-on-­one, or in small groups over Skype with your Regional Territory Manager. Your Territory Manager provides ongoing coaching and any internal support you require to win more business.  We also encourage communication and collaboration amongst your peers.

How will I be evaluated?

Depending on your territory size there is minimum volume requirements and code of conduct.

What kind of companies are a good fit for Skout Deals?

Merchants of who have one or more “bricks and mortar” locations. Big or small. They sell to consumers directly with walk-in traffic, and are actively engaged in marketing their product or service. We offer turnkey solutions for small merchants and can provide custom solutions for large enterprise merchants.

How much work is it to onboard a company?

It depends. For small to mid­size business that are posting their deals through our self-­service online platform, very little if any additional effort is required.

What is the best way to sell new business?

Networking and cold-calling. Reaching out personally to entrepreneurs, business owners, marketing managers, and influencers in your community and getting them excited is the best way. By developing relationships with them they’ll help you build and grow your book of business. Most of the time you are able to do this from their home office. Or, if your style is to be a face-to-face salesperson, that’s fine too. You decide.

How long is the typical sales cycle?

It varies, for some to medium sized merchants it can as long as a single call if you can make a presentation to the decision maker immediately, most often it’s a two or three calls if you need to schedule a separate demo meeting. For large enterprise sized merchants it varies.

How much does a protected territory cost and how much money can I make?

Territories pricing depends on size and number of merchants within your territory. For qualified candidates you can purchase a territory for as low as $2500 down and we will finance the rest. We provide generous residual remuneration structure, with bi-montly payouts. Based on achieving our minimum volume commitments of a standard sized territory you have the potential to be earning a six figure income in the second year.

How do earn commission when merchants sign up for the forever-free plan?

Initially you don’t. However, the forever-free plan is a great tool to take the risk out of a merchants buying decision and shorten the sales cycle. It’s a win-win. As an added incentive, for the first 30-days on our forever-free plan we automatically upgrade the merchant to our Premium Pro Plan with all the “bells and whistles”. Our hope is the Pro Plan works so well for them that they want to sign up for a paid subscription after their trial ends.   It’s important to note that downgrading to the forever free plan has very limited features and most merchants who are serious about growing their business, or have multiple locations, are best suited with a paid plan.

What is the selection process?

Our goal is simple, “to succeed together”. It’s very important to us that we find people with the entrepreneurial spirit and sales and marketing ability who can represent the brand and fit in into our culture well. We give preference to those who live in or near the territory they own and are well connected within their community, although it is not a always requirement based on the candidate and situation.   We’ll review your application and if we like what we see, we’ll schedule a initial phone interview to learn more about you and answer any questions you may have. If  it seems like a good fit, we’ll have you sign and NDA and provide you additional information regarding the opportunity and compensation and next steps.
